CGRU statement on USAR reorg
January 02, 2020
You should have seen the announcement by USAR of significant financial mismanagement and subsequentially plan to reorg to keep this from happening in the future. At that time the GU presidents, who act as responsible fiduciary agents for our own organization let the governing body know that we weren’t going to continue to accept this level of incompetence. For those who don’t know USAR were unable or did not make payments to the GUs as they ought and owed ours nearly $30,000 at one point. We are one of the smaller unions, so you can surmise what they may have owed other unions. At this point, they are basically caught up with what they owe us.
USAR then sped up the reorg plan. Those GU presidents who were able to attend a conference call came up with a game plan to make sure you are represented on the committee. I didn’t know if we could get all GUs on board, but we achieved solidarity with a majority. Certainly, are a lot of opinions, but in general, those who made the call have unity in purpose.
A few of the GUs are already underway researching and discussing life outside of USAR, if necessary, but not anyone’s first desire. I am cautiously optimistic that something can be worked out. However, the timeframes to get a workable solution in place is very tight. I am confident that we can come out with the other side of this as a strong organization with more local governance and local control of finances that will allow us to offer more benefits to our members.
I was very pleased with the professionalism of the other GU presidents. I don’t know what the USAR organization will look like in the fall of 2020. I know we will be playing rugby. The CGRU board is prepared to work with other GUs to ensure that we grow the game and offer our members continued confidence in the game we all love.
Our board's goal is transparency, and we will release what we can as soon as we can. At this point, you have all the latest. You can certainly email me at email@example.com with any questions that you may have or comments and concerns.
